about the futon shop

futon shop showroomWe started making futons in 1983 and opened The Futon Shop in 1987. The website www.futonshop.co.uk was launched in 1998. Over the next few years we increased our range of bed bases and in 2000 we changed the name of our shop to the Natural Bed Company. Our showrooms are in Sheffield's Devonshire Quarter.

Our futons and beds are handmade in our Sheffield workshops. We use high quality materials, solid timber and skilled craftsmanship to make comfortable modern furniture that will stand the test of time. We deliver throughout the UK and many countries worldwide; our design and construction techniques ensure quick and easy self assembly.

We mostly make to order which means that we can offer a large choice of finishes and sizes. Let us know what you want - if possible we’ll adapt our designs to suit you.

Our commitment to quality and service is underlined by our membership of the Furniture Ombudsman and the Guild of Master Craftsmen; we were founder members of The Sleep Council. More importantly, we receive a great deal of positive feedback from our customers – to view some of the letters, click here.

When we started our business over 30 years ago, customer contact was always face to face - rest assured that your email or phone enquiries will receive the same personal attention. Some frequently asked questions are answered on the FAQ page.

If you need samples of fabric or timber just let us know. We can also post you a copy of our printed brochure. Request a brochure from the Natural Bed Company.

TIBET
The Futon Shop has supported the cause of the Tibetan people since 2000. We donate £1 from every order to support schools in Tibet and young, and old, Tibetans struggling with life in exile. China has occupied Tibet for the last 60 years and destroyed much of the Tibetan Buddhist culture. It's estimated that one fifth of the Tibetan people have been killed and over 300,000 Tibetans have escaped over the Himalayas, many now live in exile in northern India.
